Foundation
It can be an exciting but daunting step choosing the right school for your child. We are here to support you and your child through each milestone and ensure a positive experience enrolling to Blackburn Primary School.
School Readiness
Throughout Term 1 to Term 3 we offer a range of school readiness sessions. Each term we run Storytime, Music & Movement and Art & Language sessions with our current Foundation and specialist teachers. These sessions are a chance for your child to begin getting comfortable in a school environment and start making some connections at BPS. It is also a fantastic chance to engage with current Foundation teachers and ask questions about what Foundation looks like in 2024 and how to best support and prepare your child.
Please contact us directly to book in your child.

Enrolling & Transition
Children enrolling in Victorian schools must turn 5 years old by 30th April in the year they commence Foundation. We recommend enrolling your child as soon as possible in the year prior to commencement to better prepare your child as well as to assist with school planning. Please see our Enrol page for more information on how to enrol your child.
Once your child is enrolled, we run an extensive transition program of 5 sessions towards the end of Term 4 the year before your child is due to start school. During transition, your child will participate in literacy, numeracy and fine motor skill sessions and then get to meet their teacher and class for the following year. We believe this extensive transition program helps your child and family feel a part of our friendly BPS community.
The Foundation Year
Beginning Foundation is an exciting and important milestone for students and their families. At BPS, we understand that it can be a daunting experience and therefore take many steps to make the settling in period as positive and seamless as possible. Due to our transition program, students will already be familiar with their environment, peers and teachers.
We support Foundation students further by facilitating a relaxed entry to the classroom, dedicated Foundation playground, scheduled toilet and eating breaks, four day weeks throughout February, senior school buddies and many more.
Throughout the year we have specialised Foundation offerings and programs to set your child up for success during their whole school experience. Some of these programs include an individualised and targeted Literacy and Numeracy program, Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) which develops gross and fine motor skills and involvement in specialist lessons, school wide events and extra curricular activities from Day 1.
